Despite a hand injury picked up against Bedford Blues in November, Daniel forced his way back to play a key role in the Club’s Championship success, contributing three tries in 17 league appearances.

That followed an impressive debut season for Welsh in 2012/13 in the Aviva Premiership, during which he passed 100 Premiership appearances during a distinguished playing career.

Equally comfortable at number 8, blindside flanker or in the second row, Daniel arrived at the Exiles in 2012 from French Pro D2 champions Grenoble.

Born in Auckland, Daniel had a spell with Bedford Blues after first arriving from New Zealand, before joining Grenoble in 2002, where he benefited latterly from the tutelage of former England and Lions back row forward Dean Richards.

He spent three seasons in France before joining Northampton Saints in 2005, where he made his Premiership debut. He helped the club reach a Heineken Cup semi-final in his first season, where they lost to Wasps, only for Saints to be relegated to National League One in his second season.

After two seasons at Franklin's Gardens, Daniel moved on to Bath, where he spent the next three seasons. In 2008 he was part of the Bath side that won the Amlin Challenge Cup, beating Worcester Warriors 24-16 in the final at Kingsholm.

He joined Leeds Carnegie in 2010 before returning to Grenoble for a second spell.
