Chris Jenkins MCSP HPC BSc (Hons) MSc Adv Physio
Lead Physiotherapist
|
Biography
When Chris Jenkins came on board at London Welsh in 2008, the Dragons got a bit more than they'd bargained for, as it's few clubs can boast a physiotherapist with Champions League experience.
Fresh out of University he travelled with Barry Town FC in July 2001 to Portugal for their Champions League qualifier with FC Porto.
Chris' interest in physiotherapy was sparked as a teenager when he was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatters, a growing disease that affects the knee.
His interest suitably stirred, Chris would gain work experience at Newport RFC, shadowing their physio, as well as at the Royal Gwent Hospital before in 1997 embarking on a BSc Honours in Physiotherapy at Cardiff University.
But he would continue his practical rugby experience further by shadowing Wales A physiotherapist Andrew Seary twice a week and on match days for Cardiff High School Old Boys, where he "saw all the injuries under the sun".
After University, he worked at the Royal Gwent Hospital, and as physiotherapist for the University Wales Institute Cardiff, where not only was Kevin Bowring the coach but a certain Danny Wilson was hooker, before going travelling to New Zealand and working in a hospital in Whakatane, as well as for the local Maori rugby club.
Following this time in New Zealand he has continued to work in sport including working for Bristol Aztecs Amercian Football; Bedwas RFC; Blackheath RFC and London Southbank University Tae-Kwon-do Team.
In the 2007-8 period Chris also completed and received his Masters in Advanced Physiotherapy (Sport and Performance) and working as a physiotherapist for Physio4life.
He has been the Lead Physiotherapist at London Welsh RFC since 2008/9 season and he manages the medical services and a small team of medical staff with the assistance of Dr Andrew Cormack, our matchday doctor.
