Biography
A left handed batsman of some note in his teens, Dragons scrum half Nick Runciman was good enough to Tour the West Indies with England U15’s, before deciding that his future lay sniping around the edge of rucks, rather than with the willow.

Nick played for Gloucestershire CC from U11 to U16 and had the opportunity to join the Gloucestershire CC Academy, but it was following that Tour of the Caribbean that he made the decision to focus on his rugby.

The third eldest of four brothers, rugby, and in particular Cheltenham RFC, has been part of Nick’s life
since he followed his two elder brothers down to his local club at the age of five.

He would also play for his school, Cheltenham Bournside School, before joining the Gloucester Academy at 15 with England U16 representative honours soon following.

He signed professionally for Gloucester when he was 18, but injuries would hamper his year with the
1st Team. However, the experience of training alongside the likes of Andy Gomersall and Simon Amor would prove an invaluable experience.

Nick spent a year at Gloucester before, along with Gomersall, trading Kingsholm for Sixways, where at the end of his first season (2005/06) he would certainly make an impact on his Guinness Premiership debut against Newcastle, picking up a yellow card but diving over for a try from five metres out. He would go onto make a total of 12 appearances for the Warriors.

It was while at Worcester that Nick would win a Grand Slam with England at U21 level, before making
his Barbarians debut lining up alongside Welsh’s very own Dorian Williams in a match to mark Edinburgh Academicals 150th Anniversary at Raeburn.

Three months later he would be joining Williams at pre-season training as the scrum half was tempted
by the clubs’ ambition to reach the Guinness Premiership, despite still having a year left to run on his Sixways contract.
