Biography
Dan Williams came through the youth system at Ivybridge College, Devon, before graduating to the pro ranks with Gloucester.
The second row forward was already part of the England Junior National Academy when he penned a one-year deal to join the Cherry and Whites in the summer of 2007.
Williams combined his rugby development at Gloucester with a course at Hartpury College and indeed was part of the victorious Hartpury side at the BUSA (now BUCS) Rugby Union Championship Final at Twickenham in 2008.
His first season at Kingsholm would also see him feature in the A League, while also gaining National League One experience with Moseley, as well as turning out for Cinderford in National Three South.
He gained further National League One experience with Moseley in 2008/09 and was a second half replacement in the clubs EDF National Trophy Final victory over Leeds at Twickenham at the end of that season.
It was only his second appearance in the competition for Moseley that season, while he racked up ten appearances in National League One.
Having been brought into the England U20 set up by head coach Mark Mapletoft in 2008, Williams featured regularly during the 2009 Six Nations.
In the summer of 2009 he represented England at the IRB Junior World Championship in Tokyo, in a side containing the likes of Tom Homer, George Lowe, Ben Youngs and Courtney Lawes. England went onto reach the final, only to lose to New Zealand.
Williams captained Gloucester’s Sevens side at the Middlesex Charity Sevens tournament at Twickenham in 2009.
Williams joined the senior squad at Gloucester in June 2009 and made an appearance off the bench for Gloucester in their 2009/10 pre-season friendly against the Ospreys, before returning to Moseley colours where he made four appearances in the Championship and one in the LV Cup.
